Charity shop pioneersWe opened one of the first charity shops in the 19th century providing affordable clothes to people who couldn't otherwise. In the over 150 years since then, we have remained unwavering in our dedication to ensuring everyone can afford basic necessities and transforming lives through it.Since then, we now have over 400 shops full of bargains and collectables. We have three in Northampton, Banbury and Peterborough that have a range of affordable designer clothes, furniture, and cafes to keep you refreshed while you shop.Salvation Army charity shops have become favourites with thrifters and fashionistas for the quality and variety that can be found. Our Princes Street shop located near London’s famous Oxford Street has been featured in numerous publications such as and as one of the best charity shops on the high street. The items you buy and donate to our charity shops directly goes to our work changing lives, and is an ethical and sustainable way to shop for hidden gems. We are big supporters of slow fashion and responsible shopping, combatting the disposable culture of recent times, where pre-loved items are reused in all their glory.
We find it important to protect the environment through promoting sustainable and ethical ways of shopping and fundraising in order to bring you a bargain and helping our work in communities across the UK.Any items that we are not able to sell in our shops are sold for reuse overseas. This means we are acting responsibly with all donations to raise essential funds for The Salvation Army and to avoid unnecessary waste going to landfill by encouraging reuse and recycling. These items are Made to Order byOn behalf ofTerms & ConditionsReturnsWe cannot accept personalised items back unless they are actually faulty. Please note that there is a wide variation in how the keepsakes come out, due to the very different natures of the fabrics we receive and the final item may well not look exactly like the pictures on our product pages. If you are not happy with your order for any reason please get in touch straight away to discuss it.Types of clothingWe use shirts as a guide for numbers of items (below) but you can send us pretty much any clothing. We can work with all kinds of materials - if they are delicate/knitted then sometimes we back them with another fabric for stability. We struggle to work with very chunky knits and we can’t use plastic rainwear or swimwear. On the whole we can do most things, however the wider the variety of fabrics the less ‘uniform’ the finished item will look.Number of itemsIf the items are much bigger, say a dress with quite a bit of fabric etc, then you may be able to send less.
Generally, we would say it is better to send slightly too much than too little. Please do tell us in a note with the clothes which are the favourites, especially if you are sending more than we’ve asked for, so that we can make sure they appear prominently on the finished item. Please do tell us if you want a bit of everything using. If you don’t, and we don’t need it all, then we will make a decision about what to use and will send back any uncut items. Similarly, it is really important to let us know if you are sending in certain items which are particular favourites, or if you want bits of detailing etc using in a particular way.
We will always do our best to adhere to these requests, although it may not always be possible. What if I don’t send enough? If you don’t send enough we’ll get in touch and ask you to send some more – make sure your contact details are right! Can I send more clothing items than specified? If you send too much and we can’t use it all we will return any items that have not been cut in to at all. If you want to send more and have particular ideas about which pieces are your favourites please enclose a note with your parcel saying which ones are to be used first. What condition do clothes need to be inThe clothes need to be clean and in a reasonable state. The more worn out an item is the less likely the final keepsake is to be durable. If it is really falling apart and we think it will have a real impact on the final product we’ll get in touch to discuss whether or not we go ahead or use a different item. Can I wash my keepsake? While our keepsakes can be machine washed at 40 degrees, we would prefer that they are hand washed and dried naturally. Do not tumble dry.
